The Superior Man
The Superior Man I. Thesis The characters in Jack London’s The Sea Wolf are a wide diversity of personalities. The captain of the Ghost, Wolf Larsen, is a cruel and merciless character who has no sympathy for mankind. He then captures a gentleman named Humphrey Van Weyden who challenges him mentally. Van Weyden, who represents good, triumphs over Larsen, representing evil. This paper will discuss the physical, mental, social, and moral attributes of the
book. He was practically unstoppable because nobody had enough courage to step up to him. Humphrey Van Weyden challenges Larsen though. He is intelligent and moral and in the end he triumphs over Larsen and declares his love for Maud. The best theme portrayed in this novel is the triumph of good over evil for in the end Van Weyden ends up on top while Larsen ends up dead at the bottom of the sea.
