…book. He was practically unstoppable because nobody had enough courage to step up to him. Humphrey Van Weyden challenges Larsen though. He is intelligent and moral and in the end he triumphs over Larsen and declares his love for Maud. The best theme portrayed in this novel is the triumph of good over evil for in the end Van Weyden ends up on top while Larsen ends up dead at the bottom of the sea.
