The differences in the character of Marge in the movie and in the film create very different feelings in the audience toward the character of Marge and her relationship with Tom Ripley. The ring scene of The Talented Mr. Ripley is a perfect example of how a writer and director will change a character to influence the audience to feel the same way about the character as the individual creator.
