Through Mr. O’Brien’s words I felt such things as the loss of companions and the all out horror of war itself. As a whole the novel was very touching. …step on a landmine and be crippled for life or even killed. It shows how selfish men are to think about material things when people around you are dying. It let’s us see how it was for these men, and it should give us a greater respect for any soldier. Last but not least of all it shows how under pressure men can become as close as family, and that sometimes family members die.
