The play focuses on the character Doctor Faustus and his decision to sell his soul to the Lucifer. He believes that this will get him the ultimate power and knowledge that he seeks. In this play, pride is the downfall for Faustus. Faustus refuses to repent his sins and is damned to hell for his actions. Within the story,
to Faustus and gain his trust he could eventually have his soul. In the beginning, Mephastophilis almost had enough pity to try to help Faustus. Mephastophilis soon realized that Faustus was already a lost soul and that with a little push he could get what he wanted. Faustus didn’t recognize the game being played because of his pride. He sealed his fate in the end by trusting Mephastophilis and turning his back on God.
