…The train brought life, suffering, and death to Whistle Stop representing the cycle of life. In the beginning of the novel the train brought life to the town by bringing people in everyday. Then the train also brought suffering in various ways. But then the town died because the train shut down and everyone started to leave and the town did not exist anymore. The train was one of the major symbols in the novel.
