The War of 1812 - In the Public’s Eye’s Throughout the years of 1803 to 1812, the people of the United States, were pushed over the edge and were forced to retaliate against the antagonistic Britain, simply because of their ignorance toward the United States growing power. Great Britain tried to preserve its naval strength by impressing thousands of seamen from U.S. vessels, including naturalized Americans of British origin, claiming that they were either deserters …

…and more people became proud of “their” country and started to develop the first form of patriotism that the United States had ever seen for itself. During this time of great patriotism, poet Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner;" his verses later became the U.S. national anthem. What would have happened if the war never took place? Where would the United States be right now? Would we be a country of our own?
