The role of women in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice
In Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, there are many controversies over religion and friendship, but the idea of the play that interested me the most was the role of women. The two women that are in this play take on the role of the saviors of the men who seem helpless and hopeless compared to them. From the first time we meet Portia, we see that she is a very smart woman and that
ring and make him feel silly. This play to me did not seem like a regular Shakespeare play. I did not enjoy it as much as the other plays I have read, but I did enjoy getting a good laugh at the men with Portia and Nerissa at the end. I think that the heroes of this play are not the males, but the females and that will make for an interesting play any day.
