Democracy in America was written by Alexis de Toqueville. Alexis de Toqueville was a Frenchman who traveled the United States of America from 1830 to 1835. During his travels of the United States, Toqueville kept journals about the way of life and government in the places he visited. …or wretchedness. I enjoyed reading Democracy in America. It gave me a chance to see what American life and government was like in the 1800’s. It also gave me a chance to see what a person from another country thought about the United States during this time. It informed me of many things that were happening during this time period in the United States. I feel I have gained useful knowledge from reading this book.
