…the man. No one tried to stop the other messengers from escaping. Realizing this, Okonkwo cleans his machete and walks away, recognizing that his fellow clan members will never go to war. He is very upset at this because they are not being men. Okonkwo finally knows that he can’t save his village and its traditions no matter how fiercely he tries. Everything has fallen apart for him.
