To Be Yourself

Many young Americans feel the need to be accepted by their peers. People change their clothing style, the manner in which they converse, and the people whom they associate themselves with, just to ‘fit-in.’ This social problem has deprived many young Americans of their individuality and the social skills needed to function. A overwhelming amount of young people are obsessed with fitting into some kind of ‘clique.’ Insecurities plague the minds of our youth; being …

…that they used. Being an individual and not part of a group is a thing that many people will never experience in their lifetimes; chains of social acceptance enslave them. I sometimes wish that people could come outside of their façades and show themselves of to the world, and say, “look at me, I’m a person.” It is an injustice to keep yourself behind a wall, and not to show yourself at all.
