Their loyalty and friendships are continuously strengthening and this allows the group to draw on their courage in order to survive their ordeal. I believe that Ellie’s quote, “We’ve learnt a lot and we’ve had to figure out what’s important, what matters – what really matters” accurately sums up the decisions and lessons that the group are confronted with in this novel.
