Treatments of Youthful Sexuality
The Treatments of Youthful Sexuality Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson In exploring the youthful treatments of sexuality I have focused on three stories: “Summer” by David Updike, “Lust” by Susan Minot, and “Carnal Knowledge” by T. Coraghessan Boyle. While these stories have a similar underlying theme—youthful sexuality—they differ significantly in their views of
related by one theme: youthful sexuality. The differences arise when separating how that authors opinion on that theme is explored. What one author sees as sweet and innocent(“Summer”) another author sees as debilitating to women(“Lust”), while the third portrays is as a joke on the immature(“Carnal Knowledge”). However the theme of youthful sexuality is looked at it can be certain that people in general have differing views on what youthful sexuality represents.
