Two page article about Supernova Stars.
Two Types of Supernovae A supernova is an explosion of a massive giant star. This is a vast explosion where the whole star is blown up. It can shine up to 10 billion stars bright, making them extremely bright. Supernovae are so faint that it is hard for even the largest telescopes to see them. This is because they are not observed to be in elliptical galaxies. Supernovae are classified as type I or II depending
gravity. The mass of iron reaches 1.4 solar masses. Gravitational compression heats the core up and the star collapses onto itself and then rebounds into a massive explosion. This causes a shockwave which can last up to 2 years. Causing the temperature to rise to 200,000°c and explodes at 15,000km/s. there is also a rapid rise in brightness. This process can occur in an order of seconds after a life time of a millions of years.
