Types of Textiles

There are many different types of textiles. A textile is a fabric made by weaving or knitting. Textiles are classified according to their component fibers. The clothing that you wear may have been woven from synthetic fibers. A synthetic fiber is a strand of synthetic polymer. …as they burn. They also leave a crisp, foamy crushable residue. These fibers have natural flame retardance because they are difficult to ignite and burn slowly. Fabrics of these fibers often burn easily because of an open fabric weave or knit and dyes or finishes present. Cotton and polyester fibers blended together in one fabric make a fabric that doesn’t burn like either fiber. Blended fabrics sometimes are more dangerous than either individual fiber.
