…Pickett's men had not yet even been in battle. General Pickett's did as he was commanded, the battle lasted two hours and nearly 15,000 Confederate soldiers lay dead. The Confederate Army retreated southward. Meade consulted his generals and 5 of the 8 counseled him not to pursue Lee.
