Does veto power have a future in the United Nations Security Council? Perhaps the answer to this question would become clearer if it was reformatted to reflect the true question that lies at the heart of this matter. Will the major powers’ that possess veto power relinquish that authority for the sake of the greater development of a less centrally dominated, more egalitarian United Nations which would be more suited to become the central actor …

…will depend on the political will of the US, UK, and France to advocate a reform. While this does not offer any direct political benefit to these countries it will result in less power for China and Russia as well as strengthened international law and a less stagnant UNSC. If the UN is to keep progressing as a politically viable institution in the future it must make reforms in order to allow for that progress.
