Virginias Role in the American Revolution
Virginia “For the next half-century these products of the golden age served as leaders successively in the War of Independence, in the formation of a new nation based on the new principles of the inalienable rights of man, and in governing the republic during its formative years” (Dowdey, 337). The American Revolution spanned about 20 years. During these 20 years the colonists of America worked for independence from their mother country, Great Britain. Virginia contributed leaders, politicians, military
the Committee of Correspondence. All of these assisted in the making of the United States of America, and what it is today. “Virginia’s . . . Ultimately, its golden age should be measured by the fruit of its civilization: it produced more great men in government than any other society in a comparable period and a comparable space” (Dowdey, 352). It is safe to say that without the state of Virginia, we would still be under British control.
