Vision Restoration Through the use of Gene Therapy
Vision Restoration and it’s Advances Using Gene Therapy Blindness has yet to be cured, and throughout the years many different experiments and theories have been made and tested. Our technological advances dealing with vision restoration have varied through the years, and especially as we go off into the distant future different theories are created, and the cure for blindness seems to come closer within our grasp. Three years ago scientists went about trying to
restore vision to a human-like model of an eye, and delay the deterioration of the retina through the injection of the wild-type RPE65 to the outer retina (subretinally). Due to the results of the subretinal injections, one can’t help but wonder if the subrtinal injection of AAV-RPE65 could fix the defects found in LCA since it is also the cause of RPE65 deformities. Who knows what these results could lead to (Acland et al., 94).
