Prose is a very unique type of writing and can offer great insight into the mind of the poet. In Dunbar’s poem, it is clearly evident the immense oppression African-Americans faced. His writing structure, although not completely in form, brings the reader to the stage and allows them to experience a perfectly written piece of prose.
