This presidential election is giving us something to talk about. I mean, how many of us want to wait until Palm Beach County recounts their votes to see who will be succeeding Bill Clinton in the White House? Who is to blame? Most people say it’s the fault of the media—others, the Electoral College. It's been 52 years since a triumphant Harry Truman held up a Chicago newspaper with the banner headline reading "Dewey …

…possibility that a candidate could one day use the mass media to target just a few populous states with a sufficiently appealing message and prevail in a direct popular vote. I believe that in the end the 2000 election will be seen as a vindication of the Constitution and our faith in the rule of law and that the Electoral College system will be retained. And the media will be there to tell us about it.
