Steinbach wrote his novel Of Mice and Men then changed the genre of his book to a drama. He does this to convey a different to his audience. In the novel, the ending is more promising. …some point that they need the other person to succeed in their dreams. Lennie needed George and he knew it, George was the only thing, besides his dreams and hopes, which Lennie had. George on the other hand, did not realize what real use Lennie was to him, until after he was gone. I don’t believe that George would be the man he was if it weren’t for Lennie’s companionship and love.
