Grendel Grendel is a symbol of evil in Beowulf. Grendel gave numerous symbols to show that he was evil, like his description, environment, actions, and words that others said about him. There are just a few of the things that symbolize Grendel being evil, like his description, actions, and the words that others had said about him.
