catcher and rye
PLOT Holden Caulfield is a sarcastic, nasty, and unlikeable teenage boy. He seems to be caught between the little games of highschool (“your supposed to kill yourself if the football team loses or something”) and the fear of adulthood(“going to get an office job and make a lot of money like the rest of the phonies”). Holden Caulfield says that life sucks, everyone is a phony, and you’ll be inevitably disappointed by everyone
desires. In a major confession, he confesses to being a virgin. Throughout the whole book, it is evident that Holden is just in “Hormone Hell.” Granted, like many of his fans, Holden Caufield turns out to be nuts or least residing in an insane asylum. Yet, in Holden’s insanity, there is a transcendent theme. By being the angry, nasty, cynical, and biased jerk; Holden Caulfield suggests that it is okay to be this way.
