In both passages ‘A’ and ‘B’, authors Jones and Theroux talk about snow. They both jump straight into describing the snow to create a visual image for the readers. For example, the opening paragraph of passage ‘A’ states: “ A real-life, in your face blizzard.” In comparison, passage ‘B’ starts off with this sentence: “It clung thickly to the rooftops where it was nearly blue.” I also noticed that within both of the texts there seemed …

…written by a journalist (Duane Jones) as an article. You can see this by the way the text is written with its fast-pace and also by the use of ‘media-like’ vocabulary. In passage ‘B’, the author (Paul Theroux) wrote the text as a novel. Another reason why the two texts have been written totally different is the year both were written in.
