The book, The Dragonbone Chair, by Tad Williams, is an extremely well planned and well written book. Williams introduces several "stock" characters/plot devices in this book. There is the well-intentioned king mixed up with an evil manipulating advisor, the eccentric and forgetful old wizard, the rebellious royal son/daughter, the "out-of-depth" central character trying to find his/her place int the great scheme of things while remaining true to himself/herself, the ruthlessly evil
the plot threads are tied up in a space of about 30 pages. After 600+ pages of the internal developments of main characters, and the history of the humans and Sithi, it would seem that a little more time could be spent resolving some of these threads. On the other hand, if my biggest complaint about this 600 page novel is a nitpick about the final 30 pages, it would suggest that this novel is pretty good. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography**
