A Tantalizing Forbidden Fruit On May 29, 1995 Newsweek published a profound article that dealt with the topic of teens, binge drinking and alcohol abuse. The article was written by Elizabeth M. Whelen, the president of the American Council on Science and Health. …about alcohol, then young adults will consume alcohol responsibly. Will lowering the drinking age to eighteen some how cause teens to drink responsibly? Although it will obliterate the idea of the “forbidden fruit”(84) and maybe the “unsafe atmosphere” that Whelen thinks is created by denying young adults alcohol, I think more alcohol will be consumed by teens who are inexperienced. I feel this will result in even more tragic stories like the two she related.
