In Tennessee Williams’ play, the glass menagerie, all four members of the Wingfield family have chosen to hide from reality. Tom temporarily escapes his life through his poetry, heavy drinking and endless trips to the movies, and his father, Mr Wingfield has hidden from his reality by leaving his family.
