Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells. Effecting mostly white blood cells the word Leukemia comes from the Greek words "Leukos haima" meaning white blood. The disease was first described in the 19th century by European physicians. It has many different types and there’s about 29,000 new cases each year in the U.S. About 27,000 new cases are of adults and 2,000 new cases are of children. of leukemia. They are subcategorized by what cell it affects, how long it takes to progress and the features of it. One type is called Hairy Cell Leukemia. It is a rare form of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. It gets it name by the projectiles that are on the surface of the cell that look like hair.
