Shingles Shingles is a very painful disease. It is an episode of Chickenpox that later reemerges as Shingles. The Chickenpox virus, also know as Varicella Zoster. Varicella Zoster causes Chickenpox becomes dormant in the nerve cell. The virus remains in an inactive phase in the Nerve Cell of the Dorsal Root Ganglia that’s on the outside of the spinal cord. …red and irritated. Shingles is only contagious to someone that has never had the virus Chickenpox. This would only spread by maybe using the same face cloth as the person did that had Shingles, but Chickenpox is spread through the air unlike Shingles.
