…succumbed to deal with it by themselves which caused them to breakdown emotionally without even realizing it. They were both abused mentally, but not necessarily directly, to the point where their minds exploded and became delusional in which they were only hurting themselves. The supporting characters gave them hope in an unrealistic way which deceived them into thinking they were sane. This was the way women of that time period were sometimes treated and percieved.
