Probably one of the most interesting facts about Belgrade is that it exists at all. In its long history, it has been devastated more than twenty times. The reasons people continued living there is that it ocupies a vital strategic position at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, and lies on the cross roads between east and west. Although Serbian society appears as unity i the crutial moments of its history, its decline is showed by its dirty streets and unwilliness of the people to get organized in a general acto of cleaning their white city. Poeple are overwhelmed by high cost of living, and still very small and limited income, and it takes welfare to put Serbian community back to the place where it was in 1990s.
