Divorce

Separation and Divorce Before 1968 there was no federal law concerning divorce. Therefore, in that following year the Federal Government passed the Divorce Act. This Act outlined a specific fault grounds for divorce and different waiting periods for separated couples; it also recognized a 3-year separation or marriage breakdown as a new ground for divorce. …in 10 families headed by women are poor compared to one in 10 led by men. Single mothers are over 5 times more likely to be poor than families with two parents. In a way, the Government is already helping single mothers with welfare and benefits they can get because of there very low income. I think it is good that the government funds some of its money to this trend only because they have children to feed.
