Don't Be a Victim

No one can guarantee that you won't become a victim, but there is much you can do to minimize your chances. Using the "buddy" system while walking at night, keeping to the more brightly lit areas, being aware of your surroundings, and "using your head" can all work to lessen your chances of becoming a victim. …as an American. When departing, collect your bags and exit the airport as quickly as you can. In hotels, try to get a room above the ground floor. Know where all exits are. Know the phone number of the nearest U.S. Consulate or Embassy. When going out, leave a light and/or a radio on in the room. Never leave military papers, passports, or ID cards unattended. Keep them with you at all times.
