Doomed Pets

I had a goldfish for a year. It died. My dad flushed it down the toilet. I had a dog for two days. It whined. My mom gave it away. My mourning periods for both (death of fish, loss of dog) were of considerable length. Yet, if I have the chance, I still want a fish. Or if not, a dog. Fish are small and easy to care for.
