The book Farwell to Manzanar is the true story of a young Japanese-American girl, Jeanne Wakatsuki. In it she recalls the time after the bombing at Pearl Harbor, the three and a half years during World War II that she spent in an internment camp called Manzanar, and the years following her release. The book begins with a seven year old Jeanne and is told primarily through her eyes until 1972, almost thirty years after she
