In the story the society of Waknuk which is located in the middle of Labrador, has survived a nuclear war. The people refer to it as the Tribulation. Even though the war happened a long time ago, radiation still contaminates the world outside the small community. …seems be more of a metal struggle than a physical struggle, using fear and hope. The story is told in first person. This is to an advantage were it becomes more personal with David and more likely to win the readers side against the beliefs of the Waknuk society. There is some use of symbolism in the story. The use of the tribulation is a form of symbol of what has become of the world.
