… of hope but one which suggests that there is only a long struggle ahead. Things were bad and the working class could see no way to make them better. In "The Full Monty" the main chracters had to resort to stripping and in "Nil by Mouth" they had to resort to violence, crime and drug abuse. This picture is far bleaker than the one painted by the filmmakers of the New Wave.
