Aloha Oè Lili'uokalani- Legacy of Hawaii's Last Queen

Queen Lili'uokalani was Hawaii's last monarchial figure in power. She worked hard to preserve the customs and well-being of her people, being one of her first priorities, during her reign. Being a descendant of chiefs that were treated like gods, she lived up to her heritage by serving as a figure of strength and honor. … would not accept Hawaii when Grover Cleveland was in office, due to an envoy being sent there that saw the queen as the rightful figure in power. When McKinley became president, though, Hawaii was thought of as an economic asset and annexed into the US on August 12, 1898. Queen Lili'uokalani lived the rest of her life in a state of quiet depression. She resided, as an American citizen, at Washington Place until she died in 1917.
