An individual cannot change what he has become: "Citizen Kane"

In the film, "Citizen Kane", this idea is portrayed through the protagonist, Charles Foster Kane. He cannot change what he has become. He becomes an egotistic, arrogant and unsociable individual and cannot change this. As a result, he remains lonely and dies all alone. In his infancy, Kane enjoys the company and security of his parents and his home. He lives a happy and content life. Unfortunately, his mother inherits a potentially enormous fortune and …

…scorn. The degree of each is up to individual interpretation. We are witness to his arrogance, his ego, his manipulation and his immortality. Yet at the same time we are privy to the circumstances which took him from an ordinary life and created a character as superficial as his enormous wealth. However, one aspect on which all authorities on the subject would have to agree on is that Kane cannot change what he has become.
