The organization I have worked for this semester is Lutheran Family Services, in particular, refugee services. This organization relocates refugees, the ones I worked with are from Sudan, Africa. A 20 year civil war has been raging in Sudan leaving families displaced and relocated. The war is between the Northern Sudanese (mostly Arab Muslims-also in control of the government) and the Southern Sudanese (mostly indigenous people of Nuer and Dinka 'tribes'). …Newsweek showing Sudanese refugees standing in grocery stores (refugees from an impoverished nation standing in the midst of their new 1st world countries abundance-the supermarket). Materials are considered, they use American photographic equipment, and they want jobs for cars. Their social structure has been realigned and now they try to synthesize their Sudanese background and new American reality. Institutions help further these changes: the church, the church's refugee service, the public school, the job market.
