Introduction Throughout this essay I plan to analyse and discuss how apartheid changed in South Africa between the Sharpville massacre in 1960 and when F.W de Klerk became President of South Africa in 1989. In 1948, Dr Malan won the South African general election and introduced his Apartheid policies. Dr Malan initiated nine apartheid policies between 1949 and 1959. …and Indians were moved out of cities into special reserves in 1950, their travel expenses became more expensive. When the bus companies tried to put up fares, these people simply boycotted the buses. Many violent clashes occurred (such as in Evaton where nine people were killed). These clashes were between the boycotters who tried to stop others from using the buses, and the guards hired by the bus companies. Order was only resolved by police force.
