Assess the extent and nature of resistance to Nazism within Germany between 1933 and 1945

Hitler's ascension to the position of Chancellor on January 30th 1933 marked the beginning of a new and turbulent period for Germany and hardship for German citizens. The young, liberal intellectuals working within the foreign office took an international outlook and there were constant attempts both before the war and during it, to contact allied forces and work a deal for Germanys future out. The Abwehr was a vital tool in the German resistance force and its head, Admiral Canaris was one of its main executors behind the 'Officers Plot' of 1944.
