Unfortunately individuals refuse to acknowledge the incredible prices that they already pay for pollution, lost productive time in highway congestion, personal medical costs, and taxes spent on public health care and the automobile infrastructure. Only when these social ecological impacts of the automobile become widely accepted will the major barriers be removed to dealing with the crisis of automobility.
