It became difficult and easy to forget to put out your hall light if someone knocked on your door. …masks which covered the eyes nose and mouth. They had filters at the front of them to stop people breathing in gas. The filters contained asbestos, which at the time people did not know it was a danger to your health. Schools would have regular practises of putting on the gas masks but fortunately gas masks were never needed because German soldiers found that gas is a very difficult and dangerous chemical to deal with.
