Cambodia: killing fields
CAMBODIA <Tab/>Because of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge not only were thousands of Cambodians forced out of the cities and into the fields but the entire Kampuchean culture was nearly wiped out, these atrocities need to be brought to the world's attention so that they may never happen again. <Tab/>On March 18th 1970 General Lon Nol systematically overthrew "the direct descendent of 80 kings" (Attwood 64), Prince
mercilessly slaughtered. Only 7 prisoners survived of the 14,000 prisoners that went into Tuol Sleng under the Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. <Tab/>In learning and teaching about the 'Killing Fields' of Kampuchea we pay tribute to those who suffered undeservedly, so that they may not have died in vain. Hopefully knowing about the evil and atrocious acts performed by Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge will prevent anyone from repeating history.
