Doctors were under-educated, and medical practices and tools were primitive, resulting in many preventable deaths. The working class were put into unhealthy working conditions and forced to work ridiculous schedules. With all practices in perspective, it is not hard to see that we are very lucky to live in an advanced time such as ours.
