"Catcher in the Rye"

…they are mature and old enough. Salinger wrote this passage to show that Sally's rejection shows more sensible maturity than Holden's immature notions of running away from home and responsibility. Step 3 J.D. Salinger uses repetition in Holden's speeches through out the book to show the importance of Holden's speech, to show a great deal in Holden's words and his attitude towards his eagerness for love and care, and to symbolize Holden's maturing around adults.
