However, by trying to control and protect trade in the Western Hemisphere the United States got itself involved in the Spanish American war, in which by winning, and the ratification of the Treaty of Paris, caused us to claim lots of land and forcing us to become a Imperialistic nation and a world power whether we planed it or not.
