Chapter Summary: Islam, Duiker and Spielvogel

The world of Islam The rise of Islam came about in south-west Asia from the Semitic-speaking Arabs. Both the Arabian Peninsula's arid climate and isolation from other civilizations of the time would prove to contribute to the unique religion which was to form. Islam began around the birth of the prophet Muhammad (570 CE) and would prove to be a successful and flourishing civilization later on. …which started the brutal crusades in 1096. In 1258, the Mongols took over and ended the caliphate. After they conquered the Muslims, they began to adopt their ways of life, including Islam. In the north, around 1453, a new force, Sultan Mehemt II began ti develop. Islam proved itself to be a prosperous civilization of ancient times. It developed a world religion which is still widely practiced today. Its literature and other cultural arts will never be forgotten.
