Character Analysis of Charlotte Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper"
In Charlotte Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" the main character is a woman who might have been slowly slipping into a state of insanity, but her husband caused the process to escalate as quickly as it did. Gilman's insanity was not inflicted maliciously or intentionally, but grew out of erroneous ideas. She was forced to listen and accept the diagnosis of men without the ability to express what she felt her condition was. Women of that
relationship with the wallpaper I think that she would have hit rock bottom a lot sooner. Maybe she would have actually jumped out of the window at some point. Unfortunately, the misdiagnosis from her husband and brother caused her condition to get worse. However, it is painfully obvious that no matter what happened, Charlotte Gilman was already on the road of insanity and would have came to that dead end at some point or another.
